Definition
- Negative rights are legal rights that a person can exercise without requiring someone else being forced to do anything.
- Example: the right to control your property; the right to not be aggressed against. Given that one’s body is included in this definition of property, the right to free speech (so long as it doesn’t create a substantial risk or threat of harm) is also a negative right.
